Talking It Through Before You Decide
You are welcome to book a visit purely to talk. Dr. Amoldeep Singh Toor, DVM, who founded the practice in 2018, and the rest of our veterinary team will go through where your pet’s condition has reached, what comfort care can still do, what the coming weeks are likely to look like, and what the day itself would involve.
Knowing the practical detail in advance takes a surprising weight off, because most of the fear people carry is fear of the unknown. Bring whoever needs to be part of the decision, including children if that is right for your family, and ask anything you want to ask.
The Day Itself, Here in Elk Grove
We will give you a quiet room and as much time as you need, both before and afterwards. You are welcome to stay with your pet throughout, and you are equally welcome not to; neither choice is the wrong one and nobody here will think anything of it. A sedative is given first so your dog or cat is relaxed and comfortable, resting against you or on their own blanket, before anything else happens.
What follows is gentle and quick, and we will describe each step as we go so nothing takes you by surprise. You can bring a favorite blanket or toy, and you can take as long as you need afterwards. When you are ready to leave, our team will handle everything else, including payment, away from the room.
Aftercare and the Days That Follow
Our team will talk you through aftercare and can arrange communal cremation for you. You do not have to decide any of it in the room, and you can call us the next day if it is easier to think about then. Grief for an animal is real grief, and it can arrive with more force than people expect, particularly for children and for a surviving pet who is looking for a companion who is no longer there.
If you have other animals at home, ask us about that, because they do notice and there are gentle things that help. We are here on the phone afterwards if you want to talk about what happened or simply hear that you made the right call.
